Welcome Music Lover,

My name is Don, and from 1998 to 2004 I ran a website called Project Nod Zine. The goal of the project was to provide a platform for underground Heavy Rock bands to get exposure on the internet.

After I shut down Nod Zine (which is a story for another time), I kept getting questions from people, most of which can be summed up as “What is good out there that I should be checking out and listening to.”

2000 LPs is my answer to that question. It is my hope that everyone who comes to this site will get exposed to some new, or old, music that they’ve never heard but will enjoy.

2000 LPs gets its name from a comment a friend of mine made a couple of years ago, “How many friggin albums have you got?” At the time, I had stacks and stacks of LPs all over my apartment. I made a guess of about 1000+, and when I actually started counting, I found it was more like 2000. And they cross all genres and styles, from the Heavy Rock like Led Zeppelin and Monster Magnet, to the Psychedelic Pink Floyd, the Progressive Rock of Yes and Gentle Giant, to country with Roy Clark and Doug Kershaw, to the Jazz of Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakely, and Cannonball Adderly, to classical with Holst’s The Planets and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, to the folk of Roy Harper.

I have only 1 criteria for the music in my collection, which Roget Waters said best: ” the only thing that is important is whether it moves you or not. There is nothing else that is important at all.” I don’t care about labels and categories for music, I do not limit myself to any preconception of what good should be or where it should come from.

Some choices here will most likely surprise you. You’re going to come looking for one thing, and hopefully get turned on to some other things, even things you might not otherwise have considered or heard of.

You’re going to disagree with my opinions and conclusions, perhaps a little, perhaps a lot. That’s all cool. My goal is to help you find what is right for you, and hopefully entertain you a little along the way.

PREVIEW MODE: 2000 LPs .com

I reached one of my primary objectives with 2000 LPs, which was to see how long it took to 'break' WordPress.

After uploading 300+ Artist pages, and 1,000+ Release pages, WP has ground to a snail's pace in loading.

I have put 2000 LPs in Preview mode while I work the issue out.
